Under the motto "RFID @WORK – Discover the Future of Smart Logistics," Wilms and Logopak held a joint practical workshop on May 20. The exclusive RFID event used practical applications to demonstrate how logistics and intralogistics can benefit from RFID technology.
More than 60 pre-registered guests started the day with a relaxed get-together and an opportunity to get to know each other. After a cup of coffee and a welcome address by host Katharina Wilms, Managing Director of Wilms, and Steffan Gold, Managing Director of Logopak, the first tour of the RFID test center on the Wilms Supply Chain Technologies premises began at 10 a.m.
RAIN RFID technology was presented in practical live demonstrations at a total of eight different stations, both indoors and outdoors. A group guide led small groups through the stations.
Employees from both companies provided exciting insights into the latest hardware and software solutions for optimizing logistics processes, shared their practical expertise, and were available for questions and discussions after the demonstration.
Visitors were impressed by the wide range of RAIN RFID applications on display:
- RFID enabled forklifts (including automatic recording of warehouse movements)
- RTLS positioning systems (e.g., using BLE-supported technology)
- Laundry dispensing systems (pick-up recording and replenishment control)
- Print-and-apply systems (fully automatic label printing, RFID tag writing, and application in a single precise step)
- RFID-based e-kanban (automatic replenishment control in materials management)
- Barcode bulk reading systems (optical detection by camera systems)
- RFID temperature sensors (reading of passive UHF transponders with sensor data)
- RFID truck gate (recording of complete truck loads)
- RFID-supported picking of event materials (error prevention during goods receipt/dispatch, traceability of loaded goods)
All reading results at the stations were evaluated and presented live by Wilms' own middleware "TRALOSY" (TRAnsparentes LOgistik SYstem) – via screens and in apps on mobile devices.
During lunch and coffee, there was a lively exchange with and among the participants, during which interesting discussions were held and new contacts were made.
At the end of the day, visitors were able to take away many new ideas and inspiration for
RFID-supported process optimization in their companies.
"A well-organized RFID practical day with an enriching mix of RFID@Work, coupled with an exchange of ideas with other companies and their use cases. Communication can be so easy! Thank you very much for the experience!" said Sven Pointek, Logistics Foreman at BASF, summing up his visit to Wilms.
Ralf Dasenbrock, responsible for process optimization at Pöppelmann, also had words of praise for the event: "I really enjoyed the practical day at RFID@WORK. The relaxed atmosphere allowed plenty of time for discussions and networking. I came away with the impression that Wilms is not only an excellent partner for RFID solutions, but also for other identification systems such as 1D or 2D barcodes. The practicality of the solutions presented and the good relationship with Logopak, among others, as a supplier of high-performance printers and application systems, are convincing. The organization and catering were also excellent."
"This day also offers us a great opportunity to learn more about the challenges our participants face in their everyday work," said both managing directors, who were very satisfied with the lively participation, the program, and the extremely positive feedback.
Nothing stands in the way of a repeat event next year. Planning is already underway!
